Ioannis Alexander Avramis, MD

Ioannis Alexander Avramis, MD, is a board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of adult and pediatric spine conditions. He sees patients in Dallas and Frisco and is recognized for his expertise in scoliosis, spinal deformity, complex spine surgery, pediatric spine disorders, adult spinal reconstruction and degenerative spine conditions.

Dr. Avramis serves as Director of the Baylor Scott & White Spine & Scoliosis Center at Baylor University Medical Center, where he is dedicated to advancing innovative treatments for spinal disorders. Fellowship trained in both adult and pediatric spinal surgery, he provides comprehensive care for patients with scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal deformities, spinal instability and other complex spine conditions. He previously served as research director of the Baylor Scott & White Scoliosis Center in Plano.

A native of Houston, Dr. Avramis earned his bachelor's degree from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude and earning induction into Phi Beta Kappa. He completed medical school at the University of California, Davis, followed by orthopedic surgery residency training at the University of Southern California and Los Angeles County Hospital. He went on to complete specialized fellowship training in adult and pediatric spinal surgery at UC Davis Medical Center and Shriners Hospital for Children Northern California.

Committed to advancing the field of spine surgery, Dr. Avramis is actively involved in research, education and innovation. He has authored more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and spine textbook chapters, holds a medical patent and serves as a principal investigator on multiple research projects focused on improving surgical techniques and patient outcomes. His professional memberships include the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society and Scoliosis Research Society.
Dr. Avramis has been recognized for his commitment to excellence in orthopedic spine care. He has been honored as a Texas Top Docs "Top Doctor" in Orthopedic Surgery, received repeated nominations for D Magazine Best Doctors, and has been recognized as a Texas Super Doctor by Texas Monthly.
