Stephen Mathew, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic sports medicine surgeon specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of sports injuries, shoulder injuries, knee injuries, hip injuries, elbow injuries, ankle injuries and ligament tears. He sees patients in Waxahachie and provides comprehensive care for athletes and active individuals of all ages, helping them return to their sport, work and daily activities as safely and efficiently as possible.
Dr. Mathew has advanced fellowship training in sports medicine and specializes in both non-surgical treatment and minimally invasive surgical techniques, including arthroscopic shoulder surgery, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, rotator cuff repair, labral repair and joint preservation procedures. His clinical interests include the treatment of sports-related injuries and arthroscopic repair and reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, knee, elbow and ankle in both adult and pediatric patients.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mathew has cared for athletes at every level, from youth and high school sports to collegiate, professional and Olympic competition. As Director of Sports Medicine for Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Waxahachie, he is committed to advancing orthopedic and sports medicine care within the community while helping athletes achieve optimal performance and recovery.
Dr. Mathew believes in a collaborative, patient-centered approach to care and is committed to shared decision-making. He takes the time to educate patients on both conservative and surgical treatment options, empowering them to make informed decisions that align with their goals, lifestyle and activity level.
His focus on evidence-based care, individualized treatment plans and advanced orthopedic techniques allows him to provide exceptional care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, from acute sports injuries to chronic joint problems. Outside of medicine, Dr. Mathew enjoys playing sports, making music and traveling with his wife and sons.
